I read the trilogy starting with this book many years ago. It was a book I could not put down, I was still reading 'just one more page, then I will stop', until 3 or 4 am. I had forgotten about it until I saw it here in Shelfari. Well worth a read. I later saw the video of this book, believe me the book was much better.

    • Amen to that !! the movie was stupid, didn't even follow the book at all!! the Mother did not die, in the movie she hung her self! wrong! you have to keep reading to find out how it really ends! the rest of V.C. Andrews books are good too!

This book is really touching. Certain parts of the book are really intense that sometimes you feel as if you are in the children's shoes. It is also heartbreaking especially when the children are slowly poisoned with ascenic. The cold reality of how money influences the course of life of most people sets in with a bang, especially when that course will lead to the death of others. This book is an epitome of the true reality of how cold human beings can be to the extreme.

Like Vanessa S. I read the entire series and it was wonderful and I noticed that the books quality of writing started to decline and found out that VC Andrews had passed away. It was a loss with VC Andrews passing. Excellent read.

i am sorry but am not able to figure out how this website works. Although this book i did read in paper back. I know there is the next part. Yes the first part was so SAD. I still cannot understand and beleive that a mom can actually poison her children like that . Imagine with doughnuts.. GOd, I rem crying when I read that part. I truly hope that theres some fiction in that than non fiction.

Oh yes, scottlady, this book was made into a bad 80's movie with acting so bad, it was good. The names are the same. Worth a look, but don't expect too much!

The first 'incestual' book I've read as a teen from V.C Andrews. The reading craze was started off by my big sis, and she infected me with it along with my other sis. Those were the nostalgic days of buying the previously-owned/bargain V.C. Andrews books from the US which were then being sold @ Book Sale here in the Philippines. Quite compelling and shocking I must say. It's no wonder teens beginning to see the real world are drawn to reading this book; they search for meaning and answers but only find destitution along the way.

The movie to this book was horrid. It was dumb, dumb, dumb. And the people couldn't act.

I loved this book and read up to I believe, If there be thorns... But then the writing and the stories just weren't the same. They just weren't any good. So I stopped reading them. The other VC Andrews books, I couldn't get into.

I happened to like the movie. There was just something about it that I felt caught the coldness of the mother and grandmother. Ah, to eash their own. :)

I really wanted to, but the story becaming dull. It seemed the author had nothing else to add and so it took a dive from there.

I was in high school when Flowers in the Attic came out. It was the rage with everyone at my all-girl school as well as with our mothers (at least mine). My mother, who has a really sick sense of humor, starting sending me to lunch with a powdered-sugar donut everyday after she finished with it. I just remember that series as being unlike anything I had ever read before. Even though I know it's bad for me, I still indulge sometimes.

My mother enjoyed this book and read the others by the author almost as soon as they were published. I decided to read this just out of curiousity. It was okay and I could understand why it was popular, but certainly not my cup of tea. The books now being 'ghosted' still seem to have a following, so they must be doing something right.

Haven't really had a desire to see the film, since the story does go in a "creepy" direction and I don't mean that in a good way!

The whole series is extremely good, but not for everyone. I read these when I was only 13, and I think it helped me in the way I treat other peoples love. And it was the first BIG piece of literature I read, making it memorable in my eyes.
