Nathan my son gave this to me several years ago for Christmas and have picked it up several times and put it down. I am now reading it again, perhaps Spring is in the air and Diane has made it come alive for me. I can hear the birds and see in my mind baby foxes are being born.

Diane Ackerman has a sensibility like no other--she joins together science with our spirit and senses to achieve a fulfilling read on so many different levels it’s truly refreshing to encounter one of her books. In this one, she takes us through her garden alighting on each flower, sharing something infinitely fascinating about it, about nature or about us specifically as if she is a bee pollinating our minds to grow into something more beautiful too. I have been a city dweller for 26 years with only an occasional chance to garden at my community park, so reading her work soothes my restless, green soul. I hope it soothes yours too!
