“There's all kinds of reasons to dislike this book. It is not technical enough to feel like an old fashioned sailing adventure. It's not scary enough to be a horror novel. It's not deep enough to be an intense character driven story. Yet somehow it is still just a flat out enjoyable read, from an author who is good at creating such.”

Didn’t Like It

“I had high hopes fro this book based on he jacket blurb, "Horatio Hornblower meets HP Lovecraft". Those are two of my favorite types of stories. Unfortunately, this didn't deliver. Dull-as-dishwater writing added to pointless flashbacks left me muttering "GET ON WITH IT!". One hundred and sixty pages into the book, nothing of any real interest had happened; and THAT was only half way through.
HPL only needed thirty or so pages for "Call of Cthulhu".
An interesting premise completely...”
