I had high hopes fro this book based on he jacket blurb, "Horatio Hornblower meets HP Lovecraft". Those are two of my favorite types of stories. Unfortunately, this didn't deliver. Dull-as-dishwater writing added to pointless flashbacks left me muttering "GET ON WITH IT!". One hundred and sixty pages into the book, nothing of any real interest had happened; and THAT was only half way through.
HPL only needed thirty or so pages for "Call of Cthulhu".
An interesting premise completely...
