This however just seemed badly written, with far less of the character development or interest of the first book. I've got the third lined up to read, but I almost wish I'd treated the first book as a one off, and ignored this sequel.”

My first reaction when finishing this was “No, no, no! You can't end there!” Needless to say, the cliffhanger is really annoying but otherwise, this was a great book.
Maya is a harlequin the wanted to leave the life of violence, distrust and death. In the first book she is forced to take back up the life of a harlequin and protect two brothers. Before Maya can get to them, they are separated and she begins protecting Gabriel, and leading him towards someone who can train him to be a Traveler. In the meantime Michael, Gabriel's brother, is taken by the Tabula and embraces their lifestyle. In this addition to the series, Gabriel and Michael are both searching for their missing father, one wants to save him and the other wants to destory him.
The developments between many of the characters and the changes in this book made me sad and happy at different parts. This thriller-like book is well written and creepy in the the idea of a Traveler and an organization with ideas like that of the Tabula is presented as completely believable. This was a fascinating story in that it could very well be real on some level. The events that happen are close enough to reality that the possibility of it happening is there. That element combined with the writing makes this an exciting read.”
