“I agree with the comment about the introspective Norwegian sensibility of this book. Though I have never been to Scandinavia myself, one of the first things that struck me about it, and one that I felt consistently though to the end of the story, was the sense that I was overhearing an inner voice. Whatever action was taking place outwardly, I was listening to the inward, subjective voice of one who was experiencing it or remembering it (and because it was so consistently subjective, the distinction between the two became negligible). While I can understand how the ending was not completely satisfying to some, I did not mind it, as it seemed the fitting continuation of an already restrained and understated account of outwardly dramatic circumstances.”
“I read this book in 2 days! Once I started I couldn't put it down. Having been to Norway several times, the writer captured the essence of the country and the introspective way of the Norwegian people. I adore this book and am searching for others of his books that are translated into English. ”
