Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass (Classic Collection (Brilliance Audio))

by Lewis Carroll

First published in 1865, these endearing tales of an imaginative child's dream world by Lewis Carroll, pen name for Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, are written with charming simplicity. While delighting children with a heroine who represents their own thoughts and feelings about growing up, the tale is appreciated by adults as a gentle satire on education, politics, literature, and Victorian life in... I suppose by now it is well known that this was written by a very active mathematician, and the seemingly impossible or unusual things are all mathematics disguised as real or dream world. And yet it is very readable, classic for children, because it was written just as the story was told to a little girl - so the legend goes.

probably my favorite reading as a child and in college. it's like a series of puns and riddles - what's more fun than that?

An intriguing story to revisit as adults, our Group found Caroll's wordplay and devices a highlight, yet most of our conversation focused on Caroll's intentions (is it really a story for children?) and Alice's adventures perceived through a contemporary lens.

I bought this book when I was twelve. Throughout my life I have peeked back in at Alice's world and found a familiar comfort in the droll and sometimes dark stories. In my teens I bought the annotated version which is captivating. Illustrations by Tenille are essential for the complete experence of Alice.

THE Masterpiece in children's literature. An Oxford mathematician works nonsense out of logic and sense out of nonsense to form 2 books of unparalleled wit, originality and beauty (courtesy Tenniell, the illustrator). I would say it is a mathematical deconstruction of a dream, marvellously consistent and coherent in a way.

I gave this book 4 stars mainly because of "Through The Looking Glass" which has always been my favorite of the two stories. Takes me back to when I was a kid again.
