Mellony, a 15 year old girl leaves her home upon being forbidden to play music. She finds fire lizard eggs on the beach and moves them into a cafe to protect them from the thread fall. The 9 fire lizards hatch and Mellony feed them, which impresses them. She is taken to a large hold where the harpers trick her into revealing that she is a talented musician.

This is one of the most interesting novels I have ever read. Anne McCaffrey describes the events in vivid detail. The...

    If I ever started writing and published as many books as she has, I'd have to hire a team of people to help me keep my details straight :) I've read em' a million times and listened to the audiobook version a million times and love them still.

    The whole song is about saving the eggs. Besides Master Robinton was the one to polish it, but that was only phrasing, not content. I guess, I must just come to terms with McCaffrey being faulty. As you mentioned at the top of this discussion; there are other mistakes. But I still enjoy reading the books :-)
