“An engaging but perhaps too long book. The early part really got me in with young Jonathon’s life in Sioux Lookout, and graphic desciptions of gonorrhea in the age pre antibiotics. He becomes a doctor and unconventional diagnostician. He does make some reasonable observations regarding medicine “Mine is a profession of compassion, and when compassion does not arise naturally it must be faked.””
