This is the first of his books that I have read that I can say disappointed me. Too many characters with names that were difficult to remember. I had to keep looking at the glossary to remind myself who they were.

I found the entire trilogy a great read. I particularly like the portrayal of the tension between Christianity, as it was developing in England and the native religion of the Druids.
This is not your typical Arthur story, but having said that, it is a series I would read again.

A good starting point to the legend, but it still lacks the power of the final book. And I read the 3rd book first!

It was a bit slow in the middle, but the end made up for it with Cornwell's usual battle. So, overall, it was alright.

Bernard Cornwell at his best - although Arthur is a semi-mythical figure, Bernard has managed to piece together what few historical references there are to him and build an amazing trilogy round them. One of the few series of books I like to re-read every few years, hugely enjoyable

I thought that this book was a great read and i enjoyed it from cover to cover. It an Arthur novel with a difference. There is a dark feel to this book and the descriptive violence and oddly sick but great moments in the book were great. I would recommend this book to anyone but they should remember that this is not like most other Arthur books.
P.S. It closely follows the true history of Briton.
