Piers Anthony combines two realms, one of fantasy, Phaze, and one of science fiction, Proton, into a delectable read. Stile is a serf on Proton, employed by a citizen to be a jockey. When his life is put on the line by an unknown force he is aided by Sheen, a robot programmed to love and protect him. Yet this is not enough until he finds an invisible curtain that transports him to Phaze. In search of friends he finds the unicorn Neysa and the werewolf Kurrelgyre, continuing his search for the destructive force against him. As his adventure continues he balances Proton and Phaze to the best of his ability.

Great show of heart and integrity. However, the book didn't come to a clear conclusion except that nobody's dead yet--making it a good start to a series, but a bad stand-apart novel.

not sure when actually read. This, I think, was the first book of piers anthony's Phaze stories that I read. Kept me coming back for more.

Nice idea, mixing sci fi and fantasy and Piers Morgan does it very well. There is a lot of ground that has been covered before by others, such as "can robots/computers ever really be people" but it's approached well and the story is a good enough with a very likeable hero.

I guess the author made Stiles so short because otherwise he'd be a superman (he seems to be able to do everything) but other than that gripe it's good

Piers Anthony shows his punster tricks anew in this seven book fantasy series. I enjoyed it when I was around 17.

OK SiFi story. Never made it past this first book of the series.

I read this book when it first came out in 1980. I fell in love with the unicorns in it and all their varied colors. This is one of my all-time favorite books.
