Such an erudite book, yet presented in a way that will engage even the casual browser. Boorstin has a very reassuring style of writing. You can sense his scholarship, yet you will feel as if he is an old pal telling you a story to help pass time. I just loved it.

A little slow, but the content is amazing. It teaches history in the way that most of us didn't learn it in high school.

Incredible book! It takes you on the journey of history from the point of view of ALL discovery. You really get a sense for what it was like before we knew what we know now. Big book- I read it in small secions because it gives you a lot to ponder. Great conversation starters too!

This book is about major discoveries humans have made. Topics include measurements of time, geography, European discovery of the East, discovery of the Americas, astronomy, anatomy, etc.

This first of a series of three books is by far the best. It is compelling and intriquing - an expansive read.
