A humorous, non-fiction book about what it is to make art and then keep making art, especially in a world where the artist has always struggled. If you're not making art right now, for whatever reason, read it. Very well written with quotable quotes throughout. I had to read it the second time with a highlighter.

This is a helpful book for any creative act, including writing. I enjoyed their insights as they matched my own hard won realizations. They name the unnameable and say the suppressed fear. I hope this is understandable by a person on the beginning end of the learning curve. Sometimes it just takes experience to understand these things deeply. Kudos to Bayles and Orland for their courage.

So far, this is a profound look at the nature of creativity and the creative process. It is refreshing to read a book that affirms the "organic", expressive side of creativity and not just a "how-to" on making art for commercial success.

My sister gave me this book several years ago while she was cleaning her apartment. I've since read it at least once a year. Its a great book with some of the most practical advice any artist, regardless of medium, could use. I recommended to anyone creative!

This book kicked my butt enough to submit my first piece to a show in more than 10 years. It is extremely inspiring to artists who feel encumbered by their situations and incapable of producing "quality" work.

ARTISTS ! You will relate to every word in this book! I have shared passages with students and teachers and everyone is stunned by the acurate insights into the act of creating (and sometimes not being able to create). A small but potent book.
