Liked It“Finished 9/4 09 the ending was exceedingly bloody and violent. May take some reflection to understand some of what she was so romantically saying. |
Didn’t Like It“The is the second of of the Wideacre Trilogy - I read half of it and it was like pulling teeth. Ultimately I couldn't finish it. It has none of the pacing and build up of the first novel but all of the melodramatic sentimentality, which just made it really dull.” see full review » see other reviews » |

Gregory is a master of description, but there is too much description between this and the first book. Gregory describes the same tracts of land over and over. Although it is beautiful, it becomes exhausting to read and you can actually skip a lot of it and still understand what is going on.
This book, again like the first book, turned my stomach. I won't go into why, so as to not give anything away, but don't read it if you have a weak stomach for truly evil characters.”
“I loved this book! Wideacre captured my attention because the main character, Beatrice, was so evil, but Juila in The Favored Child was what Beatrice could have been if she had not been so obsessed with owning the land that she she cared for NO ONE else but herself and providing a male heir.”
