The second book in what is unofficially known as the Gaean Trilogy, Wizard expands the story of Cirocco Jones, who has become the Wizard charged with keeping Titanides alive as a race. Unfortunately, Cirocco has become an alcoholic due to the strain of her responsibilities, and her friend Gaby Plauget has taken up the slack. She carries out projects for Gaea such as building the Circum-Gaea Highway, in return for which she gets some of the benefits Cirocco enjoys, including apparently perpetual youth.

Gaea has decided to perform miracles, and has invited people of Earth to come to her and ask for a wish to be granted, provided they do something heroic for her. Two pilgrims, Chris'fer Minor and Robin the Nine-Fingered come looking for a cure for their respective conditions. They hook up with Cirocco and Gaby, and together with some Titanides, one of them being Valiha (Aeolian Solo) Madrigal, they set out on a heroic pilgrimage. But the real purpose of the pilgrimage for Cirocco is to canvas Gaea's regional brains to see whether the goddess herself can be overthrown. Suffice to say, things don't go exactly as planned...

Characters/People edit see section history

  • Cirocco Jones: Captain of the NASA ship the DSV Ringmaster, a tall career woman who finds her self in a strange world populated by even stranger characters, living an adventure of her life.
  • Gaby Plauget: Cirocco's second-in-command, Gaby is her lifeline, especially during the events of the second book, Wizard. She's the one charged with making sure day-to-day things run as smoothly as possible on Gaea.
  • Chris Major: Earlier known as Chris'fer Minor, he suffered from psychotic episodes and came to seek help from Gaea. She promised to heal him if he performed a heroic deed for her. He joins the pilgrimage run by Cirocco, and falls in love on the way.
  • Robin the Nine-Fingered: Robin, a member of a group of latter day witches, has a strange epilepsy that only manifests itself in gravity higher than the Moon's. She, like Chris came to Gaea seeking a cure for her illness, but under her own conditions. A strong-willed young woman, she goes though an ordeal and finds that people don't necessarily fall into sharply delineated categories set out by her coven.
  • Valiha (Aeolian Solo) Madrigal: Valiha is a young Titanide, very mature for her age, who came to the festival out of the desire to have a child of her own - literally, since she planned to conceive an Aeolian Solo. She joins the pilgrimage in the hope that taking part in it will leave her in good graces with the Wizard. She shares some of her surprisingly sharp insight on humans and opens the eyes of a fellow pilgrim to true love.
