Very readable, although I didn't like either Elizabeth or Robert Dudley much. The latter was overly ambitious and I kept doubting the sincerity of his love for Elizabeth. The first seemed unfit to be a queen. I did like William Cecil though.

I cannot tell a lie: This novel about Elizabeth I; her long-time favorite, Robert Dudley; and Dudley's first wife, Amy Robsart, is so bad, it's funny. Not one of the three main characters was even remotely likeable. However, in for a penny, in for a pound: I'm following up with Gregory's "The...

Definitely my favourite book from this series. I loved the relationship between Elizabeth and Robert Dudley and I must say that despite everything I quite liked them both. I missed the book after I finished it - always a sign of a good read.

I think Gregory's characterization of the great Queen Elizabeth Tudor was awful. She made her look like a silly love sick fool who couldn't think for herself.

Although this book was interesting, well-written and certainly grabbed my attention, I disliked Gregory's take on the relationship between Elizabeth I and Robert Dudley, and the death of Amy Dudley.

Part of the Tudor Series by Philippa Gregory; enjoyed the story of Elizabeth and her love, Sir Robert Dudley. The author notes at the end always make me want to learn more about the subject!

Historical Fiction about Elizabeth I, her rumored affair with Sir Robert Dudley and speculates about the death of Robert's wife Amy.

Was a tad slower then her other books.

As with a few of the other books I've read by Gregory, it took a while to get into. However I found myself unable to put it down after about halfway.
