Fascinating! She did it again - Philippa Gregory writes a story that simply draws me in and keeps me there 'til the very end. This tale (based on Gregory's research) is of Queen Elizabeth I and an ambitious, handsome man, Sir Robert Dudley. It was hard for me to finish this book. I finally did, but I can't get that time back lol I don't really recommend this one. There are better books about Elizabeth and Dudley out there.

Unlike some of the other reviewers, I had no problem with how Elizabeth was portrayed in this book since in my opinion Gregory showed her with both strong and frail sides. Frankly, I think this is a much more human portrayal than I've seen in other books and films. No one is strong 100% of the time and I seriously doubt Elizabeth was -- especially at the earliest part of her reign when this book is set.

Gathering all of the Boleyn-esque books of Gregory's that I've read, here's how I'd rank them:

    1. The Other Boleyn Girl
    2. Boleyn Inheritance
    3. Virgin's Lover
    4. Queen's Fool
    5. The Constant Princess

This book is d-r-a-g-g-i-n-g and is bouncing about too much. I am about to abandon it and read The Other Bolyn Girl.

These books are easy on the brain but this one seemed repetitive. Just how much court scandal is interesting?
