“Slow to start, but I quite enjoyed this book by the end. I felt every second of Brian's embarrassment even though he was unaware at the time of how much he was putting his foot in it. Got mad at him that he kept clinging to the idea of Alice when she was so obviously not suitable for him. I've seen others who found some of the references difficult between England and North America, but I didn't see that at all. Thankfully, not really a lot of dialect in the dialogue, that would have made it a difficult book, given where the characters were from. An enjoyable read.”
