I always wondered how women's work got "invisibilized" because I was aware that historically, women's economic contribution to the family firm had been counted as part of the Gross Household Product, if you will. What happened to it? This book answers that question, and many more besides. Did you know it was one single man who personally, deliberately made the decision to alter women's tax status and imputed financial contribution in the U.S. in the 1800s? Didn’t Like It

The premise is good and she brings up several interesting points, but I skimmed through most of the book. I found most of her analysis pretty simplistic and the solutions she offers at the end aren't very detailed and you're left wondering how it would ever work in reality. Keep in mind this is coming from a policy wonk though.

Anyone interested in the mommy wars should at least skim this book.
