However, the research and writing that went into this book knocked my socks off. I don't know that I'd call it a favorite, but I truly admire the craft employed by Eugenides.”

Yes | No“This is a fresh, new and eye opening plot about those who they call hermaphrodites, and although it takes maybe a hundred or two pages to really get into it, it will be worth it in the end, I believe.”

The book is supposed to be about Cal/Calliope, but so much of it was focused on the history of the family, particularly the grandparents' incestuous relationship which supposedly led to Cal's hermaphoditism. ”
