I thought this was going to be a book about a small town in England. Boy, did I miss the mark!

However, the research and writing that went into this book knocked my socks off. I don't know that I'd call it a favorite, but I truly admire the craft employed by Eugenides.

This is a fresh, new and eye opening plot about those who they call hermaphrodites, and although it takes maybe a hundred or two pages to really get into it, it will be worth it in the end, I believe.

I just couldn't get into this story. It should have been fascinating; but it moved too slowly. I read halfway through before giving up on it.

This was pretty disappointing. The book is supposed to be about Cal/Calliope, but so much of it was focused on the history of the family, particularly the grandparents' incestuous relationship which supposedly led to Cal's hermaphoditism.

the book i have has a different cover. anyway, i like this story despite how long it will take to understand some medical terms and possibilities with the human body; i appreciate it all the same. the nearly a decade's work was worth it.
