I recommend this book to every eleven year old. This book began my love of books. I just love Tandy. I think I need to reread this one. It's been a very long time since I last read it. This book started my Piers Anthony collection.

first Xanth novel. It's favorited because as a whole I would favorite the Xanth novels, but to be a little more discriminating, I'll just do this one, since it introduced me to the world of Xanth.

I owe Mr. Anthony a debt. It was while gobbling down my 10th Xanth book as an early teen it began to dawn on me that boring re-hashes of the same old silly tropes actually CAN convince someone completely hypnotized by the superficial appearances and shallow details of this literary ghetto that consuming this garbage is a complete fucking waste of time.

Thank you Piers Anthony, that was definitely a "Mission Accomplished" moment.

The Xanth novels are a quick, fun and funny read. Great starter books for young fantasy readers. There is a ton of them and you can pick up any of them and start. Very recommended

I picked this book up at a yard sale once when I was about 10 years old. I read it and absolutely fell in love with the land of Xanth. Ever since then I had been on the hunt for more from the author. I found a few more used ones and eventually started purchasing the entire series. I have read over 25 Xanth novels. They are all fantastically whimsical and take me to a place I swore I would be able to find when I was ten years old.
This book is my favorite of the series. It may be because it was my first, but I think the interaction of the seven girls with the ogre really attracted me. Each one had qualities that helped to improve the others. They all worked together to acheive goals for one another. This book demonstrates excellent teamwork and a true friendship throughout. It even has an underlying love story!
    Awesome read!!

This series got me through middle school. The ones that I remember were funny, clever and engaging. It's sort of like the x-men in that each character has their own unique magical skill/talent. Each book is it's own exciting quest. If you're new to the Xanth books, start with A Spell for Chameleon.
