“While breadth of topics covered is brilliant, Brookhiser’s interpretations of the Founders’ opinions are only sometimes specific. Occasionally, Brookhiser will propose a question, and proceed to answer in a vague and often unrelated manner.
Despite disagreeing with a few of Brookhiser’s conclusions, I did enjoy reading the book. It playfully teaches American history -- from both the past and present -- in an appropriately entertaining manner. Anyone that wishes to familiarize him/herself with the ins and outs of American government will undoubtedly benefit from reading this book.

In the book the author tries to explain how our founding fathers would deal with the many issues that our goverenment faces today. However I did not agree with many of the authors opinions on what the founding fathers would have done and in many cases, the author merely tells long anecdotes about our first statesmen that don't really answer the issue.”

I had to read it for a class over the summer, and it couldn't hold my interest for more than a few minutes. I don't think the topic excited me very much. Also I don't think the premise was very realistic, that we can use the Founder's reactions to situations during their times to explain how they would feel about today's questions. I feel like that is totally subjective.”

May not agree with all of his conclusions, but definitely give food for thought on contemporary issues and possible founding father opinions on them.”

In my opinion, one should use their own discretion - but a fun insight into the Founders, if you are interested in US Constitutional history. ”

The book covers a great deal of subjects such as God, race, and the media in less than 250 pages. Interesting read.”
