  • Teacher: She is an insomniac. Teacher has a book that she has compiled from her own thoughts, the mumblings of the other children when they sleep, and clippings she has taken from other texts. She uses this book to teach the younger children about the past before the virus struck, as well as to help make decisions based on what she has in it.
  • Mommy: 14 years old; acts as the mother figure for the children by being very protective and trying to add routine and normalcy to each day. She is terrified of leaving the house the group has lived in for the last 5 years.
  • Hunter: 13 or 14 years old; has poor eyesight and yet is able to scavenge supplies for the rest of the group; feels threatened when others attempt to help him with his responsibilities.
  • Action Figure: 7 or 8 year old boy; rambunctious. verging on feral; the brother of Hunter.
  • Baby: 8 year old girl
  • Doll: 8 year old girl; carries around a doll at all times
  • Teddy Bear: 7 or 8 year old boy who has a nagging fear of alligators; very solemn; will easily burst into tears
  • Anchorman (Angerman): Teenage boy who arrives at the doorstep of the group and tells them he is going to Washington. At times, he will hold a picture frame up to his face and speak through it as if giving a newscast; carries around a mannequin named Bad Guy that he kicks and punches as a way to vent his frustrations; mentally unstable
