If you're a Flash user, I can't understate the importance of learning to code your animations (versus using the timeline). It's not nearly as difficult as you might think at first, and the flexibility and control you gain will blow you away. This book is an excellent introduction to programmatic animation in Flash. It's easy to follow and covers a few interesting sample projects.
