“I was not sure what to expect of a biography of the Vanderbilts written by a Vanderbilt, but I really enjoyed this book. I found it to be a fascinating look into this family, and to their peers. It was well researched and well written, and covered the most interesting members of this family. ”

Left it for years, though, in my Florida home. When I finally found it, there was a note in it that Elaine (oldest daughter) wants it next, so I'm thinking of sending it to her so she can enjoy it, finally. The family was amazing, the homes are also amazing. But living that high life is certainly something I'd never want to do, with all it required. ”

This is the story of how a great fortune was built and how it was dissipated through social climbing, foolishness, and one-upmanship. It is a portrait of the Gilded Age.”
