Einstein Intersection

by Samuel R. Delany, Neil Gaiman

The Einstein Intersection won the Nebula Award for best science fiction novel of 1967. The surface story tells of the problems a member of an alien race, Lo Lobey, has assimilating the mythology of earth, where his kind have settled among the leftover artifacts of humanity. The deeper tale concerns, however, the way those who are "different" must deal with the dominant cultural ideology. The... (read more)

Diversity Works 499 books / 771 members / 7574 posts "Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. Hate destroys a man's sense of values and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false and the false with the true."

~ Martin Luther King Jr

Diversity Works is a where we acknowledge our differences, celebrate our commonalities, and make an honest effort to navigate between the two. We hope the setting here feels safe enough for you to examine, consider, and challenge ideas and thoughts expressed here. It's not about being right, but being heard.

Tell us what you think.

Alexandria Group 35 books / 73 members / 1470 posts The name of the group is a reference to the ancient city of Alexandria, capital of the Graeco-Roman Egypt, a beacon of ideas and religious ferments, a melting pot of cultures and ancient wisdom, a place of knowledge and education, symbolized by its famous lighthouse (one of the seven wonders of the ancient world) and its library (the largest and perhaps unsurpassed library in the ancient world until it was burnt to the ground by a mob of Christian monks.)

In keeping with this ideal, I envision this group as a forum for the free exchange of ideas, mostly of metaphysical, spiritual or religious nature. Occasionally we might also have a thread on relevant topics in other fields such as society, psychology, the environment, the humanities, science, etc... Occult, paranormal and other esoteric subjects can be discussed here as well.

Everyone is invited and free to participate in any way he/she wants. I'll be fairly tolerant of what is said here and how it is expressed. However I also want it to be a pleasant and enriching experience for all. Accordingly, I would like to suggest a few guidelines for the group:

*Please, come up with something substantial to say. I cannot emphasis this enough. We want to hear more from you than just "yeah, I agree" or "you're so wrong."
*Please, use web site links wisely to support your argument, not replace it. Stand alone links are discouraged. The same goes for "copy and paste" except for a few lines, short paragraphs or relevant quotes. Whole pages might be deleted at the discretion of the administrators.
*Sharing your convictions is great, proselyting is not. If you can't make the difference, please ask the administrators.
*Please, be courteous and read the entire post before you decide to reply. Much misunderstanding will be avoided this way.
*Finally, humour, wits, and your comments or suggestions for the group are always welcome.
