“This is an ambitious book, but an uneven one. When it's good, it's very good, but much of it drags. In general, at 800+ pages, it's far too long. Nothing much happens besides setting the scene for the first 400 pages (that is a l-o-n-g scene-setting, let me tell you), then you hold your breath racing through the next 200 pages, they're so good. The last two hundred are a let down, but things do get wrapped up very tidily. If there were an "abridged" version of this book, it just might be perfect. ”

This was first published in paperback in two colours at the same printing, one with yellow cover, one with black. This was "my" era - really related to her excellent description of school, family and society in Ontario at the time during cold war. Loosely based on a criminal case of the time - this was case had major impact on our lives as children during that time. ”
