I had never heard of this amazing novel even though it was a Booker Prize winner back in the seventies. The book manages to convey a very particular sense of place vividly, while having it's characters realistically represent the unique attitudes of British imperialism during the Victorian era.
This book is an engaging story with both humor and horror, and also a profound reflection on the realities we somehow create for ourselves while completely misunderstanding others.
