Quite interesting but doesn't really answer it's own question...how do engineers get from thought to thing...this just looks at a couple of impressive examples but doesn't really tackle the subtitle.

I was actually somewhat disappointed with this book. I was expecting this book to be talking about how things were designed and hoping to get something from it. Instead, I was presented mostly with histories on how the inventions came about. I got bored after reaching 80% of the book and stopped reading it. I would recommend reading "Design of Everyday Things" instead.
