“I absolutely LOVE this book!! This is the story of 3 teenage girls from very different backgrounds who meet and become best friends in 1910 New York City. Issues dealt with in this young adult novel include the experience of being a newly-arrived immigrant, leaving all that you know behind, coming to America and hoping for the best. All does not always go as planned! The suffrage movement is in full-swing, as are labor talks and the beginnings of unions. These young girls get caught up in it all and end up being at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory on that fateful day in 1911, the site of the worst industrial accident in US history. Only one of the 3 survives to tell this story, and it's not until the very end that you find out which one it is. I highly recommend reading Uprising, an inspiring tale of perseverance and friendship.”
