My Amazon Review:

too goofy and cheesy...., September 26, 2007

Since the book is one of the more expensive Luna line books, I just wanted to throw my two cents in to hopefully save you some of YOUR hard earned money since I already wasted mine on this book.

The characters are fabulously written and the story is smooth. I did kind of figure out who the bad person was about halfway through, but I didn't mind. I wanted to see how it was done and the rest of the relationships and characters pulled me happily along.
    Five superbly mystical beans......

    I absolutely *loved* this book!

It's a quick, fun paranormal read about Esther Diamond, who has a role playing a green nymph in the Off-Off-Off Broadway show "Sorceror!" When the show's star, Golly Gee, truly disappears during a magic-show type disappearing act, it doesn't take Esther long to figure out that something strange is going on -- especially when she finds out that other people have also gone missing during the same type of acts.

This book is full of quirky characters who are truly fun and well-developed -- from the three-hundred-plus-year-old Max to the creepy Hieronymus, from Dolly the Dancing Cowgirl and Delilah the beautiful transvestite, to Satsy (aka Saturated Fat) the obese cross-dresser to the tight-lipped Herlihy.

Read it! It's too good to pass up. My only complaint is that the second book in the series, DOPPELGANGSTERS, didn't come out from Luna Books in December 2006 as planned.

This was just a fun, light read. And in a lot of ways it reminded me of the Stephanie Plum series with a paranormal twist to it. I think it’s because of all the odd ball characters running around in the story. Anyway, I really enjoyed Esther; she never crossed the line into annoying with her antics and managed to stay down to earth. I also really enjoyed Lopez (the cop working on the disappearances). My only problem is that I would've liked more information on the magic aspects of the plot.

Cute and sweet. Yes, Luna is an imprint of Harlequin, a publisher known for its romances, and Disappearing Nightly sort of lacks that. It's heroine falls for a cop who is on scene very little, but Resnick may be developing the relationship over several books as there is already a second. I don't know, it's my first Luna book. It didn't turn me off (I'm not really a romance reader) so I put a bunch of Luna books on my "Plan To Read" list.

Since the book is one of the more expensive Luna line books, I just wanted to throw my two cents in to hopefully save you some of YOUR hard earned money since I already wasted mine on this book.

What started out as quirky and light, quickly turned terribly cheesy, goofy, implausible and over the top cliche' with an almost nonexistent storyline about 80 pages in. It reads like teen fiction-and not in a good way. And yet again in the steadily disappointing Luna line-almost zero romance. Take my advice and skip this sad attempt.

I loved this book. Wit, fantasy and a bit of romance sprinkled in. I can't wait to get my hands on the next one in this series. Yes, I know it's been out for a while, I just always have so many books, I can't keep up.
