This is the fourth book in this series and is the story of Chrisite Longchamp, the daughter of Dawn Longchamp. Chrisite has just turned 16 years old and her future looks promising. She has been studying piano and has ambitions of attending Sarah Bernhardt's School of Performing Arts in New York. Chrisite's ambitions are shattered when tragedy strikes making Chrisite grow up quickly and take responsibility for herself and her little brother Jefferson.
Uncle Phillip and his wife have now taken guardianship and that's when the nightmares begin. Phillip and his wife have twelve year-old twins who begin to frame Chrisite and Jefferson of things that rub Aunt Betty the wrong way. Phillip is distraught by the loss of his sister of which he was in love with and turns to Chrisite for comfort in the form of sexual advances and rape. Chrisite and Jefferon run away from their home and wind up in the home where Chrisite was born. Thintgs start to settle down and become normal until Jefferson becomes deathly ill and is sent to the hospital. Chrisite's nightmares all resurface from there.
This book was much better than the previous one although I wasn't happy about Andrews' fascination with incest and keeping relations in the family circle. This isn't the first time I've read this subject in a VC Andrews book either. It really disturbed me and was why I only gave it 3 1/2 stars.

“I read this a long time ago, but as with all VC Andrews, it was well written, a good story and fast paced. Make sure to read all in this series..”

“Dawn (Cutler) Series... 4th Book...Happy and innocent, Dawn's daughter Christie has grown up in the safest, most loving of homes. Then, in one harsh night, Christie's world changes forever. Desperate and hearbroken, she turns to Gavin. He takes her to The Meadows, the plantation where she was born. As storms gather, Christie struggles to break the past's cruel bonds...to defy the curse that has haunted Cutler's Cove for generations.”

It felt more like a contrived, easy way out sort of plot twist. Betty Ann, while effective as the psycho aunt, was also impossible to care much for. I neither hated her nor felt sorry for her. The complete lack of dignity that I would have expected of her character type was missing and it just disgusted me so much. I won't even talk about the twins--although if anyone cared enough for them, I would expect there'd be some twincest fan fic floating around somewhere. Christie's journey did not do much to improve her character and finding her way back to The Meadows again felt contrived, as did Fern's sudden appearance there. Still, it earned four stars from me just because the twists were interesting as individual elements though they did little to the story over all.”
