“I really enjoyed this book, I read it, interested to see how a novelist can succeed in presenting a distinct culture to readers who may be unfamiliar with it. Although I have studied Japanese culture for a while now, I noticed how Hearn writes her book in such a way that it can be understood and digested as a story by those who haven't studied the subject, but those who are familiar with the culture can pick out the references - I am positive without reading the author's website that the Hidden are the Kakure Kirishitan, and the religion of Enlightened One she mentions is Buddhism, whilst 'The Tribe' are ninja- so I can pretty safely bet that this book can provides a detailed glimpse of Japanese history and culture, but tells its story so skilfully that it doesn't alienate those who might only have a passing, or a newfound interest in the theme. The story is extremely well told, and I look forward to reading the rest in the series when I can get hold of them!”

This book is a book about a boy named Takeo who has supernatural powers and who was adopted by Lord Otori, a member of the Otori clan after his parents perished in a fire. His destiny was to overthrow the evil warlords and bring peace to the land. It is a tale of courage, loyalty, honor, romance, adventure and thrill.I would recommend this book to all readers out there even if they don't like books from the olden days. It's that good! There are 5 books in the whole series. So read this book and get ready to take a journey into the past.”

This book is really good, I read it in 2008 and I'm reading it again. The series follows the life of Otori Takeo (Born Tomasu) and his quest for peace. Worth reading. :)”

I could even say this book on it's own could just be the story; there's so much in it. Very beautifully told, heightened tension, and feel-good, written brilliantly, engaging characters, and my favourite romance (can't be without), this also includes fighting =] lovely”

I am glad I finally read it. I enjoyed it thoroughly! The love stories were my favorite part, and the ending my least favorite. I definitely plan to read the other two in the trilogy.”
