At first I was a bit put off by the strange writing style (the book is written entirely in free verse) but I found that it was incredibly well-written. Not only was the poetry able to effectively capture rational...” see full review » see other reviews » |
Didn’t Like It“This book had a little too much to do with drugs for me, but what was surprising was that I couldn't put it down, and finished it in one day.” see full review » see other reviews » |
“Out of all the books I've read, this most likely the most outgoing one and maybe the most graphic one I've read. It reqally pushes the limits and it's a very edgy boook which is why i like it very much. It was quite scary to see how the main character goes through so many hardships dealing with sex and drugs. I think it says it's based on a true story but I doubt it was bad as she says, i think it was a little exaggerated but rightfully so, it capture's the reader's interest and it arouses pity from the audience. It is truly sad to see the pain that she endures. I also thought the way it was written in like short stanzas, i thought it was excellent, i think that would be my most favorite part of the book. I enjoyed i thoroughly and i advise many people to read it because i think it would have a great impact on readers.”

But on a trip to visit her absentee father, Kristina disappears and Bree takes her place. Bree is the exact opposite of Kristina -- she's fearless.
Through a boy, Bree meets the monster: crank. And what begins as a wild, ecstatic ride turns into a struggle through hell for her mind, her soul -- her life.

“Crank was a good book, and an easy read. The poems made it go by faster, in my opinion. I loved how you could still tell, even with the poems, that the story was from a teenager's point of view.
What I didn't like is that, sorry to say, but I think she fell in love a little too fast.
Anyway, this is a great book!”
“ Crank by Ellen Hopkins is one of the best books I've ever read. It's about a girl named Kristina who goes to stay with her dad over the summer and meets a guy named Adam. She then learns that she has an alternate personality who calls itself Bree. Adam gets Kristina/Bree hooked on cocaine and they fall in love. Then she must go back to Rino where Adam has to stay behind but the addiction and Bree travels back with her. She meets two boys at Scott's company party, Branden and Chase. Her and Branden go on a date where Branden rapes her and after that she nevers sees Branden again and only tells Chase about her terrible experience. Then she finds out that she is pregnant and its going to be a boy. At the end of the book she is standing out on the front porch with her baby, Hunter Seth Snow, with her mom taking care of him.
What I learned about this book is that you should pick and choose your battles. This was one of the best books I read. I wish it was longer so there would be more to read. It also introduced me to a new author. After I read Crank I read other books by Ellen Hopkins such as Glass, Impulse, Burned, and I'm looking foward to Fallout.”

She was a great high school student, a great family, a goody good, and also very quiet. But one summer she takes a trip to see her non existant father. She changes completely in one summer. She meets the monster and Bree. She can't decide what or who to choose. When she comes home she chooses to bring both with her. Will her addiction to both the monster and Bree ruin her life?”
