It was an emotional rollercoaster. Only one who has been in her world with an artzy fartzy mother who was a celeb could understand. The mother in her eyes was only thinking of the art and did not see it as wrong. I did not consider the pix porn as I am adult. To a kid going to school and in the eyes of her classmates, it was something to kid her about. Had Clara faced her demonds we would not have had this book. Clara's love for her daughter made her deal with "herself" and a being a better mother than Ruth was to her kids.

I was so excited when I realized Dani Shapiro had written another book. I read "Slow Motion" and "Family Matters" and thought they were both excellent. One book is non-fiction, the other fiction. However, I was a bit disappointed with Black & White. I think the characters were under developed. The story fell flat and I kept anticipating an interaction between mother and daughter, between father and daughter, between sister and sister that was of some significance and it never happened. It was like walking around on the fringes of a really good story but never getting to the core. Maybe my expectations were too high?

A touching, emotional journey through the relationship between a mother and daughter, one learning to say "I'm sorry" and the other learning to forgive in time.

Kept me interested, but didn't blow me away. Still, a good read

50 page rule had to be used for this one. I could not get into it. Oh well

This book was great. This was my first read by Dani and I will be looking for others. She was able to take a classic plot line of the relationship between mothers and daughters and make it her own. As I read, I felt as though I was there. A defiinite re-read.
