“"If you're looking for horror, read R.L. Stine; though this too has moments that will send a chill down your spine. What makes it worth the read is the unique style of writing, which creates the ambiance of horror and suspense - read it alone at night for the experience."”

The Exorcist was scary and kept me interested throughout the entire book, even though I'd already seen parts of the movie - and it was very similar. ”

My uncle, who was 28, was staying with us during the summer of 1970. He hadn't read it yet, when I asked if I could read it, he said ok. Scared me to death, seriously, the wrongest book I ever read. After I finished reading it, my parents found out, and they got very made at my uncle. Was too late, I couldn't un-read it.”

The actual theme is not as much the possession itself, but the terror of Regan's mother that death is annihilation and that there is no afterlife. The presence of the demon is both a curse and a blessing--a curse in that it caused Megan great suffering and resulted in the deaths of two priests, but a blessing in providing evidence of the existence of a spiritual realm for Regan's mother, thus increasing the possibility that death is not the final end of human life.”
