Only Terry Pratchett manages to make a novel FILLED with contemporary issues and social commentary and never once make it appear strained or disgruntled. His fantasy will stand on its own feet in 20 years still, his social commentary right now is sharp as a knife.

This Night Watch (or just The Watch now) additional to Pratchett's Discworld series was everything and more expected from a Watch book. Full of humor, adventure, Commander Vimes on the trail of a criminal, and fighting between trolls and dwarfs. I love these books and found this was on to be a great addition to the series.

Took awhile to get into it, but once it got going, it was quite good and entertaining.

Very clever, as always. While being as amusing as ever, Terry Pratchett explores a very serious theme- racial discrimination.

Thud! is a good book, a fun book. It deftly deals with the issue of racism (between trolls and dwarves, and to a lesser extent, werewolves and vampires) and really ties in quite well with Guards! Guards! Pratchett is definitely a fun author to read, although when compared to some of his older books, the prose is a bit on the lean side. However, the jokes are intelligent, the mystery is good, and I had a great time reading it. In the end, what more can you ask for?

Quite arguably, Pratchett's best book. If "The Fifth Elephant" added a layer of history and drama never seen in a Discworld book before, "Thud" digs even deeper, and there's no man better suited to peel away the layers leading to the truth than Sam Vimes. This book is a masterpiece in every sense of the word, and you're even willing to forgive his little bits of product placement (for the Thud board game and the "Where's My Cow" children's book) because they become fully integrated into the narrative. It would be a shame if there are no more Vimes books, but if they had to end here, it would be the greatest cap to the greatest series Pratchett ever wrote.
