I enjoyed this one, though it did seem to go on and on for a little longer than it should have. And while I did enjoy it, I'm not sure if I'll read the sequels. For one, I'm not sure if my friend has the next two and secondly, I'm just not sure I want to read them. The science was a bit much...

I enjoyed this one, though it did seem to go on and on for a little longer than it should have. And while I did enjoy it, I'm not sure if I'll read the sequels. For one, I'm not sure if my friend has the next two and secondly, I'm just not sure I want to read them. The science was a bit much for me at times and seemed to go too far in explaining a lot of things. However, that reason is why I don't read a whole lot of strict science fiction. I just don't care for the technical as much as I like to hear about the interpersonal details.

Best new science fiction I've read in a very long while.

The story was engaging, but marred by too much language and sex. Didn't need it to be a great book.

I picked up this book from the library knowing absolutely nothing about it. I didn't even read the back. It said "Hugo award winner" and I got it solely based on that (not even really knowing anything about the Hugos). Much to my surprise, the book was awesome. It's science fiction at its best, when not only does it make you think, but keeps you interested in the story, setting, and characters. Wilson made even the normal lives of the characters come alive as much as the incredible science fiction parts of the story. I'm trying to get my hands on the sequel even though Spin had a very satisfying conclusion.

yah, and it's a very ugly little world with pollution, corruption, war, and over-population...what's a modern society to do? wilson supplies almost like a science answer for what has been a religious question for centuries, and all while debunking religion as unsatisfactory at worst or quaint at best. and what is the answer? alien intervention. bet THAT surprised you. the nut on which this exercise in wish fulfillment turns is the nicely realised relationship of a trio thruout the years of their lives. interesting, but...

I always THINK I want to read a science fiction book, when in actuality, it's the apocalyptic literature that I like. However, I do try to find a SF story that I will enjoy and this was it. The narrator is Scott Brick and the concept was very interesting and fun for me because I haven't read a book about terrestrials and their counterparts. There was an incredible amount of complexity that would appeal to those who are really into Science Fiction -- and because of the coming of age and friendship/relationship part of the story, it would appeal to many other readers, like myself. I did enjoy reading it (even though it was perhaps a little over dramatic with the narration which I don't think would come across in print like that).

Although a sci-fi lover, this was the first book in the genre I had picked up in a while. I selected it for my book club, and unfortunately didn't have time to finish before our meeting. I was sorely disappointed that I didn't because the book was fantastic. The characters, the storylines they inhabited all were very compelling, as was the fundamental issue they were all confronting (in very different ways)--the Spin.

The stars disappear and Tyler Dupree and his upscale friends, Jason and Diane Lawton, show some of the reactions -- Jason wants to figure out why and Diane joins a group that thinks the end of the world is near. As the POV character, Tyler is more of an observer than a participant until near the end. The entry of the Martian character, his background story and the medicines he brings with him have too many discrepancies. The ending falls flat. There are too many questions left unanswered. If there is a sequel, I don't know that I would read it. On the plus side, there is great character development.

spin is the best sci fi book i have ever read and thats a lot of books
it starts out like a normal sci fi book(if there is such a thing) then turns into a kinda love story thing with some theology in the story that make it an amazing read that changed the way i look at the universe
