Didn’t Like It “The plot was way too simple. There wasn't much in the way of characters or character dvelopment. You knew that if some one was introduced by name in the beging of the book you would undoubtedly see them again later. And those few people who are mentioned just happened to know everyone else. Some people might have a problem with AuRon's interactions with people. Knight does a really good job of making the dragons their own race, not a large reptilian person. So many fantasy authors, even ones I really love, write books where a dragon is essentially a horse-plus-human-in-scales. (Think Eragon.) Knight creates a sympathetic protagonist who you still root for, even after he preys on humans more than once. The dragon-human relationship gets more complicated when AuRon "adopts" a human child for a small part in the book, giving the character depth - he's not pure predator, but he's not human, either.
On top of the interesting characterization, Dragon Champion is a good fantasy story, and most readers should enjoy it.

“It is a very interesting book and a fun read. I had never read a book who had their main character as a dragon. It was quite refreshing but I want to know what happens to the dragons next. I will have to find the next book and find out.”

All of these are superbly written from the dragon's point of view. These are not 'pretty' dragon stories--these books are gritty and as real as you can get when talking about fictional creatures.
Killer dwarves, wise wolves, evil humans and other characters abound and I cannot recommend the entire series too much!”“The plot was way too simple. And those few people who are mentioned just happened to know everyone else. The main character always comes up with the right answer on the first try, gets wild injuries but they are never dibilitating, and can perform great feats (like flying and breathing fire) easily with the expaination of "I just seemed to know how to do it" or something weak like that. Not really a hero that you can get attached to or excited for. Not a very captivating read. Sorry Jack.”

“One of my all time favourite books, this is a story that takes a different point of view, the dragon's! It follows a hatchling, from his birth, to the death of his family and onward, as he grows and struggles to find others of his kind as well as fight with the man behind the killings of his parents and siblings. Dragon Champion is very well written, much kudos to E.E. Knight.”

“What a great book! Told from the point of view of the dragon and the creatures that he meets after his family is slaughtered (?) by hominids. What a great tale of cooperation and learning to love your enemies. I can't wait for book 2 to come in at the library!”
