I read this long ago, in high school, so I don't remember it very well. I do remember enjoying it, but it's probably just the for the philosophical-scientist type. I don't imagine most readers would enjoy it to much; the Cliff Notes would suffice fine.

A bit outdated, but still inspiring. At the end of the book when the future of mankind in space is outlined, very inspiring and fascinating.

    Overview: Editorial Review.

    "FASCINATING . . . MEMORABLE . . . REVEALING . . . PERHAPS THE BEST OF CARL SAGAN'S BOOKS."--The Washington Post Book World.

In "Cosmos", the late astronomer Carl Sagan cast his gaze over the magnificent mystery of the Universe and made it accessible to millions of people around the world. Now in this stunning sequel, Carl Sagan completes his revolutionary journey through space and time.

Future generations will look back on our epoch as the time when the human race finally broke into a radically new frontier--space. In "Pale Blue Dot" Sagan traces the spellbinding history of our launch into the cosmos and assesses the future that looms before us as we move out into our own solar system and on to distant galaxies beyond. The exploration and eventual settlement of other worlds is neither a fantasy nor luxury, insists Sagan, but rather a necessary condition for the survival of the human race.

"Takes readers far beyond "Cosmos" . . . Sagan sees humanity's future in the stars."--Chicago Tribune

This book makes a rather undeniable case for the necessity of space exploration. But more than that, it is an ode to the idea of human inquiry, and curiosity, and our need to explore not only places, but also ideas. I doubt very much that there will ever be another science writer as inspiring as Carl Sagan, which is unbelievably sad.

Sagan was a true visionary; his belief in the power of mankind to make its own destiny can convert the most cynical into a believer. This book should be made compulsory reading for the worlds politicians!
