This book makes a rather undeniable case for the necessity of space exploration. But more than that, it is an ode to the idea of human inquiry, and curiosity, and our need to explore not only places, but also ideas. I doubt very much that there will ever be another science writer as inspiring as Carl Sagan, which is unbelievably sad.
