“Abbey was crazy, forward and direct, and fabulous. Though his ideas are radical I couldn't help but love him for it. He describes the desert in a way I feel even further in love with it, which I didn't think was possible.
His ideas are still very relevant - GET OFF THE ROAD AND OUT OF YOUR CAR!

“Second time around - this time I chose it as our book discussion selection in honor of Earth Day.”

Thought-provoking and beautiful.”

It was time to see if the luster had worn off. Abbey's reflection occurred at the same time I was growing in the exact space, Southern Utah. This makes the book very personal. It remains a poetic and very political view of the merging of wilderness with the invasion of people. His chapters/essays on Arches before roads, the trip down the Colorado, and thoughts on the LDS stand out. His vision for the future has happened. He just didn't anticipate the arrival of the mountain bike (I am sure it would amuse him.)”

Although I do not agree with all of his philosopies, I do agree with a lot of his thoughts. A nice read for me as I have spent some time in the Utah desert, and can imagine myself there in my old age, living quietly with the wind and stars...”
