Ruby Holler (Joanna Cotler Books)

by Sharon Creech

Having suffered through a string of appalling foster homes (the spitting Cranbepps; scary, toothless Mr. Dreep who locked them in his cellar; and the mean Burgerton boys), 13-year-old orphan Dallas and his twin sister, Florida, have pretty much given up on ever finding a happy home. So when an eccentric older couple enters their lives, providing such adventures as a river expedition,... (read more)

Life at the Boxton Creek home is anything but Dallas's and Flordia's dream home. Since they were mischievous babies, they have been driving the owners of the orphanage Mr. and Mrs. Trepid, crazy for 13 years. I don't blame them. Why, might you think to your self? It's because Mr. and Mrs.Trepid are horribly mean. But when the nasty Trepids' tell Dallas and Flordia they are going to be adopted by an older couple, they start worrying because they think they are going to be like any other couple that wanted to adopt them, unwilling and mean. Are they going to be mean or different?
I think this book is good for anyone and everyone because it's funny, and adventurous. It is so fun to watch how throughout the book Dallas and Flordia are starting to except their new family. Not only do they do they change as a family, they change their attitudes. I love how the author leaves you hanging after every chapter. I had trouble putting the book down.
I recommend this book to all ages. This book will leave you wanting more! After you read this book, you will want a sequel. So try it! I am sure you will love it!

The book review of Ruby holler
By Nalee Yang
Have you read any books about any orphans in it??? I have and this book that I have read is called Ruby holler. This fabulous book is about two kids Dallas and Florida. They live in a orphan home ever since they were babies. Until two old couple Tiller and Sairy came to take them to ruby holler.
The characters from this book is Dallas, Florida, Tiller, Sairy, and Mr. and Mrs.trepids. Florida is a really active girl. She does things before she could think about it. Dallas is a nice, quite, and he loves to day dream all time. Tiller is just like Florida and Sariy is like Dallas. Mr. and Mrs. Treipids are really grumpy and old and really mean to kids that don't follow house rules.
Florida and Dallas are trustworthy, honesty, and have courage to live in nasty homes. They are loyalty to each other and they will never leave without each other.
Ruby holler is a place of woods and the old orphan home is were they once lived. Ruby holler is some little woods with some hills and a nice place to live at.
Tiller and Sairy take them on a trip, but Tiller goes on a boat ride and Sairy goes on a trip to look for a bird. They separated the kids until they come back. It starts to get interesting at the end. Good luck!

I think this book is very interesting, especially
when it describes their dreams.
The Trepids are mean and I hate the Cranbeps and their horrid daughter.
It made me angry when their daughter spat on the twins
and pulled Florida`s hair. She deserved to have her dolls`hair pulled off!

Ruby Holler by Sharon Creech is the story of Dallas and Florida, two adventuresome 13-year-old orphans, who had been tossed through family after family. Just when they think that no family in the world will ever accept these two children tornadoes, they come across the opportunity of a lifetime to get out of their orphanage and away from the two people they hate most, Mr. and Mrs. Trepid. An elderly couple asks the twins if they'd like to join them on one last adventure. After accepting this offer and living in Ruby Holler, the twins discover its magic and never want to leave again, but when people with selfish intentions hear about money buried in the holler, secrets begin to unravel.
I would strongly recommend this book to all audiences who desire a book full of freakishly unpredictable events with troublesome kids involved in dangerous plots. Those are the best kind. The true message this book offers is that if you try and don't succeed, just try and try again. It also shows that even kids with a history of being reckless and misbehaving do have some good in the bottom of their hearts. It is very difficult to find books that you get your nose stuck in and you want to read again, but this is one of those.

Written by Sharon Creech, Ruby Holler is a story about two orphan twins named Dallas and Florida, also known as the trouble twins in the Boxton Creek Home. Dallas and Florida do not believe that there is such a thing as a loving home. In Ruby Holler, there lives an elderly couple, Sairy and Tiller. They enjoy the beautiful sunset of the deep woods. Wishing they had two kids to enjoy the woods with them, they know where to go.
Mr. and Mrs. Trepid, owners of the Boxton Creek Home, would love to get rid of the trouble twins. "Down to the basement, two hours in the thinking corner" is something said regularly in the Boxton Creek Home. After being adopted by Sairy and Tiller, Dallas and Florida find there is such a thing as a good loving home. Can fairy tales like this come true? Ruby Holler is like a maze with twists and turns at every corner. Suddenly a twist does happen when Sairy's real kids come home from their jobs. They dislike the idea of having two orphans living in their home. The story of Ruby Holler gives and shows the meaning of a real family in new words. An amazing story of abandonment and trust, it can really teach you a lesson to love and appreciate your home. What wonderful adventures will the trouble twins be taken on?
