This is an easy and enjoyable read. The story is well written with plenty of suspense. The character developement could have been a bit more thorough. The main character was first introduced in an earlier novel so it may be worth reading that book first. Having read this book you may find yourself wanting to learn more about the Swiss-Nazi connection that existed during the second world war.

I have read a few books of Silva's. I like the art restoration angle, but some times the action gets too bloody for me.

Since I had already read one of Daniel Silva's books with the same characters, I had an easier time keeping track of people on this one. I also have a lot more background knowledge about Nazi Germany so it was easier to follow the storyline as well. I would read more of his.

Can't say enough about this author's gripping international espionage thrillers! There are 3 previous ones highlighting an American operative. This is the first all about Gabriel Allon, master art restorer turned assassin after the slaughter of the entire Israeli wrestling team at the '72 Munich Olympic Games. Fascinating perspective of the cloak & dagger life, its domestic travails & ethical quandries. Pitch perfect writing.

A great spy novel for sure! They focus on the protagonists art restoring just as much as his spy work! It's a great fast moving thriller type of book. Highly suggested to people who like murder, espionage and art!

This book is fantastic. It is Silva's second Gabriel Allon novel. It moves at a fast pace and it very well written. This book focuses equally on Allon's art background and his job as a spy. The dialogue is witty and sometimes very humorous. A wonderful book.

Although there are 3 prior espionage thrillers by this author, THE ENGLISH ASSASSIN is the first in which Gabriel Allon appears, so be careful, cuz once you've started this series you're in for one helluva ride through history, the Munich Olympic Games Massacre of the Israeli Wrestling Team, The Holocaust, the birth of Israel, Anglo-American-Israeli spy relationships, & modern-day Middle East.
Thrilling & fascinating & not for the faint of heart.

Couldnt sleep 2 nights ago so picked up this book that my folks had picked up at the airport and left me. It didnt put me to sleep, but it made everything alright. A nightcap for the brain. Im reading 1 section a night, but could finish it in 1 go if not for the known consequences of a sleepless night. Brain candy!

Finished. Interesting use of history (Swiss role in stolen Jewish art from WWII). The book dragged in the final 100 pages.

Yes, another person recommended this one. It is easy to read although I had to make myself a "cheat sheet" to track the names. I am enjoying it, but I do like spy stories. It was involved, but I would read another on of his. It is my understanding that the characters appear again in other books of his. Alas, I threw out the character"cheat sheet" ! Drat!
