Of all the Terry Pratchett books I love, this might be my favorite, and that's saying something. It was certainly my first favorite. It is as well-paced as the best action movies while being as profound as any other novel I'd read. The Lancre Coven: the wilting bride-to-be Magrat Garlick, the...

Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Magrat on fine form, very enjoyable.

As Pratchett books go, this one was average. Thankfully average for Pratchett is pretty good.

Brings together the witches and Wizards nicely, and pokes more than the usual amount of fun at Lancre.

I love Pratchett, and I love the witches. As usual, Granny is mean and spiteful, but for all the right reasons. In this one, the witches return from their adventures abroad (in Witches Abroad), and are trying to get resettled at home. However, strange crop circles are popping up everywhere, and Granny has her suspicions. In the meantime, a group of young witches has started practicing, and dancing, at The Dancers (a ring of iron stones with a very specific purpose). The dancing has woken up the Lords and Ladies, the Fair Folk, The Gentry, but whatever you do, don't call them by what they really are: Elves and Fairies. The Queen of the Lords and Ladies has plans for the country of Lancre, but Granny has different ideas.

This book had a surprisingly dark feel to it. The elves are cruel, and a little scary. The mystery starts to unfold, and Magrat finds herself, Granny does the impossible, and some of her past is revealed. The wizards have a bit part in this, and Nanny's "friend" Casanunda (the Disc's second greatest lover, but he tries harder) reappears. This was interesting because it introduces characters that you see again in the Tiffany Aching set of books. I think it's just wonderful how each book can stand alone, but when you put them all together, they create an intricate and beautifully interwoven world. This was a great one.

Another fine Discworld romp by Pratchett. The Kindom of Lancre is to be blessed by the wedding of the King Verence and junior witch Margrat Garlick. Of course the two incomparable elder witches Nanny Ogg and Granny Weatherwax are in it up to the tops of their pointed hats as well.

This is one of my absolute favourite Discworld novels, and is one that get's re-read frequently. Ideally, you should read 'Witches Abroad' before this one, as 'Lords & Ladies' picks up directly after the end of 'WA', and is referred to alot.
