You have to be willing to suspend disbelief with respect to the time travel in order to enjoy this book. There are causal loops which will bother people who read a lot of books which contain time travel. It can be excused in this book because the story is really about the romance and not about time travel per se.”
“I read and listened to the audio on this one. Sometimes separate, sometimes together. I found it easier to have the book in hand to refer back to dates and years, etc since the story is absolutely NOT linear.
Enjoyed the complexity of the story. Keeps you guessing. Anxious to see how the movie will compare. ”
“One of the best books ever!”

For me, the theme became How much would I want to know about my life, and the lives of my loved ones? How can it change - or CAN it change? - the way I live my present?
The story of Henry and Claire is the limitless bounds of love. They love each other across time. It is told with humor and realism in a very unreal setting, for the most part avoiding sentimentality. It also had me wrestling with the idea of one, inevitable love, a theory I don;t personally ascribe to.
The relationships with their friends and family, both who know the secret and those who don't, are interesting and well-developed. The torture Henry lives with knowing sometimes what is going to happen and sometimes not. was heart-wrenching. Having to constantly re-live the death of his mother was brutal, but tempered by getting to know her before he was born and at a young age.
Ad I came near the end of the story, I realized I was constantly experiencing the book as Henry's story, even though it is The Time-Traveler's WIFE. I then began to think about the book with Claire at the center, and how that change in focus affected the story for me. I thought a lot about what this life had been for her.
I think I would have really enjoyed reading, rather than listening to this book. The physical act of reading has an appeal with certain pieces of literature. Touching a book, smelling ink and paper, carrying it with me everywhere, are central to who I am as a voracious reader. Note to self: choose audio books carefully - choose ones I want to absorb rather than savor.”
“sad ending, although the whole plot was good, slightly confusing at first but very interesting and consistent”
