“Pulpwood Queens book selection fo August 2008”
“I had recently heard that this fantastic book is being made into a movie with Forrest Whitaker portraying Denver Moore. The same filmmakers that produced The Pursuit of Happyness. Anyone know any additional information about this?”
“I notice that a lot of Caucasians has read this book. that is good. But I also wish that the African Americans here would take the time and read this unlikely story as well. I just happened to come across this book by accident in Walmart. I saw the book, and something compelled me to read it, but the price on it was a bit steep for me so I got it at Barnes and Noble the next payday, and I was not disappointed. You have this black man whose family lived in Red River Parish and worked on a plantation picking cotton. Surprisingly, despite the times and all, he is able to keep up with what is going on in the world but he grows up with never having gone to school, never having to learn a trade, nothing. Yet there was something within him that wanted a better life, so he hopped aboard one of those trains that kept seeing as a child and ended up in Ft.Worth, Texas, but as he found out soon enough, he wasn't trained for anything except and couldn't get no kind of job except menial and labor jobs. He did get to see the country a bit, but he also did some jail time. He ended up homeless for over twenty years until he met Debbie Hall, who somehow dreamed about him and along with Ron tried to befriend him. At first, he was reluctant, but with time, they became the best of friends. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book to those who believe in the hand of God and the fact that miracles still occur in this modern age.”
“I was in Walmart, and just happened to see a copy of this book. When I saw the title and subtitle, it intrigued me because slavery goes deep for me and mine, but as I looked through the book, I had to get it, and I didn't stop until I got a copy yesterday. What truly hurt me about this book was that this man had NO education, no direction, no nothing and to me that was a real sad situation but like I say God ALWAYS keep a ram in the bush. ”
