    Vintage Pynchon, broad sweeping cineamatic.

Wildly uneven and took forever to read, but the long stretches of brilliance were more htan worth the hard trek.

At 1,100 pages of intertwined story-telling, Against the Day by Thomas Pynchon is quite the read. Loosely historical, with major characters aplenty - Traverse family, Chums of Chance, Yashmeen, Daley Rideout - through multiple historical eras and events - Colorado labor troubles of the 1890's, Tesla's discoveries of the 1900's, and WWI - the story, characters, and plot keep the reader engaged and entertained.

So far so good. Some parts are funny and strange, a few parts are a little too out there for me, but it's a good read so far (450p of 1100)

Too long and uninvolved to be better than a 3 star. Let's face it. Most of you will never read through this whole book like i just did. it took me the better part of a year to finish.
Some flashes of glory, but here is hoping that the new one in August is easier.

Classic Pynchon - just can't stick to it! This time, the diabolical captains of industry in the gilded age are trying to refract light through the Iceland Spar with the help of co-opted scientists to bring the world under their control. Pockets of resistance are raging against this and the very idea of splitting the light into day and night - a Sisyphean task comparable with the idea of actually finishing this book. Good luck! Maybe not the best of his to start with if you're new to him.
