Didn’t Like It“There was a time in my life where I was really into what Jhonen Vasquez was doing. Unfortunately, that's the only time in anyone's life where his work is even tolerable. Poor little Squee is scared of everything. He has a cute little teddy bear, Schmee. Squee was never wanted by his parents and they tell him so.
I like Squee. But, I was disappointed to discover that only half the book was about Squee. Then, there just seemed to be random comics to fill up the rest of the book. Some were o.k. Others I just didn’t like. I liked it better than JTHM, so it gets and extra ¼ star, but still only 2.75. Probably would have been 3, if the entire book was about Squee.

“There was a time in my life where I was really into what Jhonen Vasquez was doing. Unfortunately, that's the only time in anyone's life where his work is even tolerable. His art has improved here over Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, but the writing has gone to shit. When all's said and done, it comes off like a novelty made with the sole purpose of being sold in your local Hot Topic and the humor is just trying way too hard (for example, look at the title) and often just comes off patronizing in that "this is what 'goth' kids laugh at, right?" sort of way. I guess I'm just too old for that because a recent re-reading of this book just did nothing for me other than annoy the hell out of me. Some of it would make for funny bar napkin doodles, but that's about it. And Tony Millionaire did that way better than Jhonen Vasquez could ever hope to.”

Yes | No“Todd Casil lives next door to Johnny the homicidal maniac, who occasionally comes through the small boy's window looking for band-aids or disinfectant. He is known by many as 'Squee' because of the tiny squeak he emits when afraid, which is very often. He goes to a school in which every other student is a mindless drone of a bully and he gets picked on for his love of writing stories. His father resents his existence, while his mother is completely oblivious to the fact that little Squee is even alive. The only friends he has are his teddy bear, Shmee, who encourages him to burn things down and the like, and Pepito, the Antichrist, who he is terribly afraid of. This book is about Squee's adventures in his terrible, horrifying, scary world. ”
