I've long been a fan of the adult Discworld books, but to call this a children's book is misleading. Terry Pratchett brings to it his usual flair for creating characters, and while the fact that the main character is nine years old may make the book more accessible to younger readers, no matter...

The ending was too full of dream stuff; it felt contrived. Or maybe I was just too tired to really think about it and try to make sense of it.

Little-girl witch Tiffany loses her baby brother to the Queen of Fairyland. Armed with an iron frying pan and accompanied by a herd of tiny, vulgar Scottish warriors (pictsies, get it?), she marches off to retrieve her brother and kick some fairy butt. She also finds out that her grandma was a witch, and becomes the temporary queen of the Nac Mac Feegle (the aforementioned pictsies). It's funny and smart and very girl-power.

An hysterical satire fantasy book by Pratchett that has a strong female lead and great fantasy ideas and sly social commentary. You'll love this even if you haven't picked up a Discworld book before.
