This is a powerful book for many reasons. First, Kaufmann does an excellent job of dispelling many of the misconceptions of Nietzsche, especially those about religion. Although Nietzsche was critical of religion, there are a great many misconceptions about why he was critical of religion. He was more critical of how religion was typically practice -- without critical reflection, legalistically, etc. -- than religion itself. His stand on religion itself was more simply that he did not believe...
